This year has been a roller coaster ride for the Canucks.
The team traded its top draft pick for the No. 1 overall pick and acquired two first-rounder in the deal that sent Matt Bartkowski and Jannik Hansen to the Chicago Blackhawks.
It’s been a disappointing year for the franchise.
The Canucks are 1-13-2 with only one win in the last eight games and the team is on pace to finish with the fewest points in the NHL, but the team still has the most valuable draft pick in franchise history.
Let’s take a look at what the team has accomplished in the meantime.
Trade for Tyler Ennis and Nicklas Jensen It’s time to get rid of the Canucks first-overall pick and the No 1 overall selection in the upcoming draft.
Tyler Ennes is a talented young center who is playing the best hockey of his career at the NHL level.
His offensive game is on point, his defensive game is solid, and his versatility is evident.
He is not only a leader on the ice but a calming presence off the ice as well.
He has been the Canucks best defensive forward, and is currently on pace for an even 100 points in his first full season.
He would make a great second-line center if he could stay healthy.
Nicklas Hansen has proven to be a solid third-line winger and a consistent penalty killer.
In his rookie season he led the team in scoring with 26 points, and has put up nearly 70 points in each of the last three seasons.
He’s a smart player who is a strong leader in the locker room, and would bring a lot to the team.
Both Ennes and Hansen would help out the Canucks power play, and the Canucks would benefit from a young player like Hansen that can help lead the way.
Get a second-round pick for Tyler Bertuzzi It’s important to keep in mind that the Canucks are in a rebuilding phase and this pick could help.
The pick would go to the Vegas Golden Knights in a trade that would help the team improve.
The Golden Knights have had a very good season in the draft, but they have yet to make any significant moves this year.
In a trade, the Canucks could get a second rounder, a prospect or a young forward.
The draft picks are very valuable, and they can be traded later if the team needs a player that could be moved.
Bertuzzio is one of the best offensive prospects in the entire NHL.
He can score goals, and he is a skilled playmaker.
He could be a great first-line forward if he can stay healthy and develop his game.
Sign a third-rounder to a deal The Vancouver Canucks have signed one of their top prospects in Zach Hyman, and this is a solid pick.
The 19-year-old has played in the AHL with the Portland Pirates for the last two seasons and has already put up 22 points in 60 games.
He was the first defenseman to score in a playoff game in the 2016 Calder Cup Playoffs.
He might not be the most talented player in the game, but he is an excellent puck-moving defenseman and would fit right in on the Canucks third-pairing pairing.
The Vancouver Jets are the team that drafted Hyman and the Jets have a need for an offensive defenseman, and that is why they traded for him in the first round.
He will help in helping them win more games this season, and will also help the Canucks improve in the defensive zone.
Sign another defenseman for a pick The Vancouver Islanders are in the midst of a rebuild, and with that comes the need for a defenseman.
The club is currently in the middle of the pack in the Eastern Conference and is also searching for a new captain and someone to help out on the penalty kill.
The addition of Matt Bartowski, who has made the playoffs in every year since joining the team, would be a huge upgrade to the Islanders defensive corps.
Matt Bartoski, a 19-time NHL All-Star who played for the San Jose Sharks, Toronto Maple Leafs and Colorado Avalanche has been playing at a high level this season.
In 61 games this year, Bartosks scoring totals have been second among defenseman in the league, and it is very likely that he will be the team first-choice defensive defenseman for the upcoming season.
The Islanders have the most picks in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, and Bartoske could help the organization at the AHL level.
Sign the likes of Jordan Subban, Dylan Strome and Jack Eichel This is a pretty big deal, and one that could make the Canucks look even better this season than they already are.
It is very possible that the Vancouver Canucks could go down to two defenseman in 2018, and if the Canucks get a defenseman that is a better fit on the team and on the back end, then the organization can go into the expansion draft and get a player or two that would fit
