Amazon’s $100 billion business in the retail space is booming.
The online retail giant announced that it will invest $100M over the next three years to expand its business and add thousands of new jobs.
The new hires are expected to help Amazon’s growing number of retail locations across the country.
The company also announced that its flagship retail stores in New York, Los Angeles, Seattle, and Chicago will be expanding to include a new Amazon Fresh delivery service.
The New York store is scheduled to open in early 2018.
The Los Angeles store is slated to open this spring.
The Chicago store will open this summer.
Amazon says the expansion will help to create jobs and help to boost the economy by adding about 2,000 new jobs, or about 2% of its total retail workforce.
Amazon will continue to add jobs through a variety of initiatives including new products and services, and new stores.
The expansion comes on the heels of Amazon adding thousands of retail jobs in the US in the past two years.
In 2018, Amazon added 2,979 jobs, a 10% increase over 2017, and more than the total number of employees it had at the end of 2017.
The retailer also announced it will begin offering free shipping on Amazon orders from US and Canadian retailers this summer, which will add another 100 jobs in 2020.
Amazon’s retail business is one of its key businesses.
In addition to its retail stores, Amazon also offers some of its own services, including its Prime program, Amazon Music, Amazon Kindle, and Amazon Prime Video.
Amazon currently offers some 30 million Prime memberships in the United States, according to Fortune.
Amazon has about 3.7 million retail employees in the country, including more than 1,300 at its headquarters in Seattle.
The firm’s expansion plans will help Amazon to add more than 2,700 jobs over the coming years.
The Seattle store will be the company’s first new location since 2014, and the company says it will be “the largest and most technologically advanced store in the world.”
Amazon said the new jobs will be a boost for the Seattle-based company.
“Amazon’s growth will be fueled by our ability to provide more opportunities for people to earn money, to buy things and to live a life of convenience,” said Amazon Chief Executive Officer Jeff Bezos.
“The Seattle store and its proximity to Seattle are vital to our overall growth strategy and our ability in the future to attract and retain the very best talent from across the globe.”
Amazon has said it plans to invest in its workforce in the years ahead.
“As we continue to expand and invest, we will make investments that will help build more good-paying jobs in Seattle,” Bezos said.
“We’re proud of our team, and we know that when we invest in our employees, we are investing in them as well.”
Amazon will also invest in new technology, such as Alexa and drones, that will allow the company to do more with more of its workforce.
The Echo, Amazon’s personal assistant that can be programmed to respond to your voice, will be available for purchase by customers in the coming months, and will be free for people who have an Amazon Prime membership.
Bezos said Amazon is working with Apple to make the Echo compatible with its products.
